Internet Connection in Odiongan

Staying here in Odiongan, Romblon for more than 2 months now is really a challenge especially for a newcomer like me. As you may recall from my previous posts, I permanently reside here in Romblon to handle our direct selling business. Add to that a photocopying service and soon to be Internet Cafe if all went on budget. Being here is not that different from where I've spent my whole life with. I'm talking about my sweet home San Pedro, Laguna which I spend most of the day connected to the online world. Here is different. I don't have a net connection yet. Labels: Internet, Personal, Philippines
My friends knew me for being frequent when it comes to going online. That is my life since I had my first Internet experience way back 1999. Since then I become an addict. Imagine I don't have an Internet connection even though I have a PC in the shop. I thought I go crazy if I haven't went online at least everyday. That proved me wrong. Today, I don't crave some of the habits I do before even watching television. I go online sometimes by renting PC's on some Internet and PC shops in the area. However, I plan to do this everyday and that could cost me more than 30 pesos a day. I'm a budget concious nowadays now that I'm fully independent. What to do?
There are Internet connection subscriptions available in Odiongan. Wireless connections and via landline (DSL) are the two types of data services offered for both residential and commercial. First, I tried applying for a wireless connection in OWAP but to no avail. I feel they won't let me because some say their network is already congested. Maybe they heard that I was planning to put up an Internet shop and that could rival their own iCafe just around the corner. I dunno. Next, I went to OTELCO, the local telephone operator here in Odiongan. The shop already has a landline connection under OTELCO. This gave me an idea before that the telco is able to offer both voice and data services. However, this kind of service (DSL) is a new service offering starting this year to their current and soon to be OTELCO subscribers. After applying for a subscription, they noted on our application that the process may take a week. The final installation will took several weeks after processing. The necessary equipment to provide DSL signal on telephone wires costs P65000+ and that the company hasn't been able to purchase yet.
And so I wait...and wait...I'm bored...wait again.
March 11, 2008 4 pm, the OTELCO technical guys arrived along with the modem. I was overjoyed. I like the small modem. Picture below:
The subscription plan was 128 kbps for P1500 a month. Expensive right?! Compared to DSL plans offered by Smart/PLDT and Globelines. The problem is the lack of equipment and tools of those aformentioned big players in the country to deploy their services here. OTELCO however is powered by PLDT/Smart but does not offer what PLDT/Smart were able to promote in Mega Manila. We did an application before on SmartBro to be installed in our shop. Our application was rejected, the signal for data services here is too weak to establish an Internet connection. Then how was I able to surf the net with speeds of up to 100kbps on my Smart mobile phone if there's insufficient signal for data services here?
I hope the government of Romblon pave way for these two big players to enter here so that customers can choose an alternative and initiate a healthy competition.

I mentioned before on one of my post that I'll be going to spend a week in Romblon. I did go to Romblon last Wednesday but stayed just for one day. I left home with my mom together with my dad who drove us to Batangas pier that day. It was late when we started our journey to the port from 1:30 pm instead of 12:30 pm. Our departure time was 5 pm and we arrived at the port area 30 minutes before departure. We already had tickets for the both of us, thanks to my mom who has a lot of connections in the ticketing area. Labels: Internet, Personal, PhilippinesMy mom started traveling back and forth to and from Romblon for the past 5 years. She had known several individuals in the ticketing area and some crew and officers of the different vessels (en route to Romblon) in the Montenegro Shipping Lines. Just one call and my mom is given automatically one ticket and reserved a bed either in the air con room or in the economy.
Exactly 5 pm, the ship MV Maria Isabel left the port of Batangas and arrived at Odiongan, Romblon at 4 am. We then took a rented tricycle to take us to one of the house of my mom's secretary. We rested there for 3 hours then proceeded to my mom's boutique located on the new rented location in front of the Romblon State College. We went to DTI office (a few walk from our location) afterwards to register the new business under my name.We decided to put my name as the registered property owner of "JKL Shoppe". We need to plan the floor area of the boutique and the soon to be added internet cafe starting with 5 pc's (will add soon as the need arises). So, my mom owns the boutique and within it is a small space just for the 5 PC's in which I manage.
The processing was quick and I received the DTI permit number that afternoon. My mom was hesitant if we should stay for a week in Romblon. Orders are already piling up in Laguna that my mom need to process. We can't rely to our family members to do bank transactions in behalf of me because my dad had work and my two siblings go to school. It is very difficult when I'm not at home. I usually do the bank transactions whenever my mom is in Romblon.
We decided to leave that same day we arrived and planned to go back on the 20th of December. The ship will leave Odiongan port at exactly 5 pm, already reserved tickets and arrived at Batangas port at 4:15 am the next day.
I took some images inside and outside the shop and also included some pictures aboard the vessel.

1Mbps DSL Speed Experience
Sep 19, 2007

I'm thrilled to see my DSL modem speed indicators shows that our Internet connection now streams data of up to a megabyte downstream and 512 kbps upstream. It was an unexpected event although earlier we planned to upgrade our land line as soon as possible. I never thought that the upgrade will include the increase in DSL speeds until I found out later on during the course of the negotiations. Labels: Internet, Personal, Philippines, Technology
It was more than two years ago since we took the offer of some house to house salesmen of having a DSL connection at home. They're good in sales talk and been able to convince my parents to acquire one. The plan includes a telephone line which uses a prepaid card to make outgoing calls and a DSL connection with speeds of up to 128kbps downstream and 6kbps upstream. We took the offer and after 3 weeks, we have a new land line and a DSL. The speed was at that time considered fast for me compared to the dial up speeds which reaches speeds of up to 6kbps only. Month's later they upgraded our downstream and upstream speeds to 128/96 kbps at no extra cost. The connection stayed for a year and a half until this September. My mom grew tired of dialing numerous numbers and pin codes just to make an outgoing call. We decided then to request an upgrade from our telephone provider.
My mom requested that our land line be upgraded from using a phone card to a direct dial. A plan was negotiated between her and the tel co officer. It was then agreed that the line will be fully upgraded within a couple of days based on the contract of agreement. The DSL speed therefore will be upgraded to a higher speed as well. The cost of the upgrade plus the new monthly bill will not be disclosed as of this writing. One day, tada!... we have a new land line number and a new DSL speed upgrade.
As some of you may know, the speed 1Mbps indicated by perhaps all companies that offer broadband is not consistent. This explains that plans of 1Mbps download speed or more is not necessarily mean that you can experience that speed consistently all day long. The broadband providers clearly states that your DSL connection speed will reach only up to a maximum dedicated speed indicated on your plan. In my experiences for the past week, I'm able to see download speeds of up to 800-850kbps downstream during peak hours and 900-1Mbps download speed during off peak hours. Based on my observations, as the number of subscribers using the Internet declines (during off peak hours and depends on the area), the chances for others (who are online at that time) to experience their maximum download speed increases, and vice versa. Then again, it depends on which area are you located. These are only my observations and these may contain inaccuracies. Please let me know. :D
Going back to my 1Mbps experience, having this connection 4 times faster than the previous speed is I think too much for me. Compared to my everyday living, I only use the PC mostly for Internet surfing. I only use the Internet to surf, do blogging, download music and files and watching some YouTube videos. That's it. Having this speed is like using a rented PC in a computer shop in Glorietta which costs P150 per hour. But how fast the current Internet connection speed will be?
In the Philippines nowadays, 2Mbps is now offered to residential communities both wired and wireless broadband with a fixed monthly plan. It doesn't end there as the penetration of DSL and wireless broadband and their speed as well increases. Based on Speedtest.net global stats, the country which has the fastest Internet download speeds was Japan with 10.443 Mbps (Huwaw!). Followed by Singapore and HongKong. For more of the Internet data speed statistics, head on to Speedtest Global Stats.
Having a 1Mbps or more download speed let's you do more than your usual common broadband speeds.
1. Watch lots and lots of Video clips from YouTube and P*rnTube ^_^
2. Download pirated movies and large files at the least amount of time
3. Upload music and movies
4. Watch live streaming TV in high resolution on your PC
5. Setup your own Internet radio station
6. Host your own live show on the web using your webcam. Lol!
7. Use it to make outgoing and incoming calls via VOIP
8. Watch Hi-resolution movie trailers on Apple's website
9. Play online games
10. and many more (I ran out of ideas already).
For now, I'm still figuring out the best way to utilize the fast broadband speed. I'm watching podcasts now instead of streaming them on audio. I'm thinking of hosting my own radio station which I want to do a few months ago. Hmm... What do you think?

Yahoo! Go is optimized for the “small screen” of a mobile phone, making it easy and fun to access the Internet. Everything about the Yahoo! Go interface is designed to be both visually stunning and give you what you want with the fewest clicks possible. At its core is the carousel, used to navigate intuitively among the various Yahoo! Go widgets: your own personal channels for email, local info & maps, news, sports, finance, entertainment, weather, Flickr™ photos and search. Simply use the carousel to scroll over to the widget you want. Since Yahoo! Go uses advanced caching and background loading technology, your widget content is automatically and continuously “pushed” to your phone, so it’s always right there when you want it. You don’t need to endure lengthy downloads or navigate loads of links to get to what you want. Labels: Internet, Mobile Services, Reviews, Technology
Search: Yahoo Go has an integrated search that outputs comprehensive results right on your mobile. It also includes your Yahoo Calendar and Address book.
Local: Put a map on your mobile. Use it to navigate and locate shops, restaurants, and many more.
Mail: Check your mail using your Yahoo mail user name and password. Acts just like a browser based email. Now you can take your mail wherever you go. Compose, make a reply, delete messages...just like the ordinary. Yahoo Go email let's you synchronize with your actual Yahoo Mail account so you have total control of your mail.
Flickr: Do have a flickr account? Yahoo Go seamlessly integrates your flickr account with Yahoo Go. Now you can view your flickr photos right on your mobile phone. You can also upload your picture from your mobile phone onto your flickr account so your friends can see and share them on the web.

Finance: Know the exact foreign exchange rates and market news that is making headlines around the world using Yahoo Finance.
Entertainment: Information about entertainment and showbiz news both local and international.
Weather: Yahoo Go brings you weather information in the palm of your hands. Know your weekly forecasts on your area.
Downloading Yahoo Go on your mobile requires you to browse the website, choose your carrier (if you're in the US) or Yahoo Go's supported phones and mobile devices.
Phone's currently supported are: Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Palm and HTC.
By selecting your specific phone, you need to choose your country on the drop down list and input your mobile number. Click on Submit button and Yahoo will send you an SMS message containing the link to download the application. Note, you need an active internet connection via your phone's mode of transfer via GPRS or 3G to proceed with the download. There is a step by step guide on how to use the application when you first run Yahoo Go.
Installing Yahoo Go on my Nokia N70 phone is easier than I thought. The duration of the download and installation depends on the network connection and the phone itself. At first when I successfully installed Yahoo Go on my phone, I encountered an error when I tried to launch it. I remembered that the storage location I did for the installation files was set to phone memory. This is maybe the culprit so I uninstall ed Yahoo Go and did a re-install once more. This time I set the storage location of the installation files on my memory card. Tada! it worked and I'm able to scroll the try the services Yahoo Go has to offer.
So far, I've tried all of it's features represented in a small widget icon that you can just flip using your phones left and right keys. The only thing that's missing is the Yahoo Messenger for mobile, To avail of Yahoo Messenger for mobile you need to use a mobile browser. Web messenger for mobile is currently the medium for Yahoo's instant messaging service. Overall the GUI is nice and very intuitive and comparing to Gmail's mobile application, Yahoo Go won this time. But hey, there are a lot of brilliant minds working in Google. Sooner or later they will unveil a mobile application that could stand-out from the others. Let's wait and see.

Oh men. I was suppose to post a meme tag from Adianka. However, I lost my interest already. Sorry for that. Now, to keep my posting frequency at least once a week, I decided to create a new post from scratch. I remember my reliable software application "Google Earth" and it's been there in my PC for month's, unused. I use Google Earth for directions and for sight-seeing. It gives you a birds eye view of a country, city, or the very location where you are now. So why not make this a post for this week? And so I did. I decided to share some of the places I've been to with details about my experiences and blah-blah's happened on that location. It includes images taken from Google Earth. ~Start Copying Here~ Alexa Redirect Train by Carl Ocab. Rules: Put anything you like above this list – Chit Chat, talkies, introduce what this is. Something like that. Start copying on the “~Start Copying Here~” and copy all the things listed without removing the links. (Of course, the train would be no use without those links.) Move all the sites labeled “Newcomers” to the list labeled “Oldies.” Add 5 sites that you want to include in the train and make their link like this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.example.com then invite them to join the train. Visit all the listed sites! (That’s not much work! Remember, if you plant good seeds they will also grow good) and look at your high Alexa ranking next week! Tag: 7 Random Facts About Me
May 22, 2007
JP aka Elmo
Eagleman Blog
Blogger

A tag was bestowed upon me. Wahehe. John Michael Vincent B. Bambico tagged me and for that I must provide my 7 random facts/habits about me.
Update: I've changed my facts. Due to confusion and my idiot-ness, I copied some of my "about me" from my Myspace account to this post. So here goes.
1. I work alone
Most of the time actually. I prefer to do things myself and won't let anyone help me. Well, depends on what and how hard the situation can be. In college, I do most of the jobs in groups projects. However, that gave me an impression that "mahilig ako mag-solo". But then, I want change like what my parents did. Long story.
2. Playing with my belly button lint
Sometimes, especially when I'm shirt-less due to the day's heat. It's kinda childish and weird actually and you probably might say "what's the fun in that?". Lint is the fiber-like grayish material found on your belly button. It's kinda like "libag" found on your neck and other parts of the body. I do this by sticking my small finger from my left hand into my belly button and scour it. Then I do the smelling. (yuck! hehe). I don't know why I do that. Sometimes I do it unnoticed like when I'm reading a long article on one of my favorite website.
3. Uber Single Since Birth
Most of my friends never believe that ,the fact that I'm good looking and bursting with appeal (LOL) yet I never had a single GF in my entire life. Sad to say, I never had. I plan to have but not yet, maybe sooner. Or let destiny guide my way. Bakit kaya? Well maybe because I am always hooked at my PC and my virtual environment. I don't socialize well, that maybe one of the reasons. I do have some instances that will lead sana to a relationship but never got there. I never got there (Piolo is that you? ahaha!). Di naman ako bakla (babae ako. ahaha. joke). Or simply no time at all? I'll wait for that special someone to come. Before studies and computer lang ang prority ko sa buhay. But then, I wish that someone will come, will caress me, yung papaliguan ako, papaypayan at paliligayahin (kanta to ah).
4. I don't apologize well
"Sorry seems to be the hardest word".I'm not the kind or person who will normally say "sorry" to the one I hurt. I'm not good at saying sorry face-to-face and verbally. I believe action speaks louder than words. Whenever I hurt someone and ready to reconcile, I'll just talk to that person and do things the normal way like nothing had happened.
5. I love foods with garlic and onions
Need to say more?!
6. News-aholic
It's been a habit for me to watch news on TV for at least 3 hours everyday, 7 days a week. Particular news channels are ANC, CNN, BBC and Bloomberg (market news). I'm interested on what's happening around the world, locally and internationally. Even when the news their airing is sometimes lame or boring, I still watch them. But then, through the years of following news on TV, there's one thing I want to say.
"Bush is an a-hole and the worst ruler in US history, Blair is a loyal blind , Gloria Arroyo did cheat on the last 04 elections and the Peso hits an all time high in the stock market."
7. I'm Security Freak
I do spend my time doing regular maintenance check-ups on my 2 pc's. It is a routine actually and I do have a handful of software utilities ready to be deployed in times of emergency. Back then, I'm always get paranoid whenever something bad had happened to my PC. I easily get worried and sometimes skip my classes for a day just to keep the PC in good shape and running smoothly. I learned a lot of lessons from that. Now, whenever a virus, spy ware, malware or any whatnots that are not supposed to be there popped out on my PC, I calmly perform my own procedures of removing them successfully.
From those experiences, my senses became more enhanced. I know in advance whether something has change in my PC. From the time it boot's up, use it and shutting it down, I know when something is wrong. Even without scanning and seeing the log alerts on my security software. So, if you want to test my security measures, please feel free to hack my PC. Be sure to email me the contents of my PC's "root directory". As well as some files in my hard drive to prove that you had successfully infiltrated and bypassed my security arsenal. Hehe.
That's not it, but since I am only given 7, eh di seven lang. Now is the time to tag 7 people. I'll tag Nash, Yatot, Eloiski, Hethler, Bean, Jonas and Georgette. For those people whom I've tagged kindly create a post containing your 7 random facts/habits about you. Then tag 7 people and let them know you've tagged them. Wee!

Featured Skin: Vienna XP and Arzo

This is my second post featuring my favorite skins from WindowBlinds. Since I'm tired of posting about personal stuff, might as well share some interesting stuff. For those of you who don't know, WindowBlinds is a...
...program that enables Windows users to completely change the look and feel of Windows users interface. Users customize Windows by using visual styles (skins) created for WindowBlinds. With these skins, WindowsBlinds can change the look of Title bars, borders, Task bars, Start button, Start menu, Progress animations, Toolbar icons, Explorer Views, and virtually every other part of Windows! more from WindowBlinds website.
This program is free to use and usually expires after 60 days (after that, re-installing won't reset the 60 day expiration). Aside from that, the free version is limited only to changing skins and tweak some settings. The licensed version ($19.95) of the software can do much more. It enables the "per pixel alpha" support on the windows and enables the ability to change the color of the skin.
This week, I found two outstanding new skins that made my Windows XP PC look much more than that of the GUI of Windows Vista.
Vienna XP
This Vienna XP skin was created by John Gordon - vStyler.
I love this skin! I wish this will be the basis of the GUI of the upcoming Windows 7 or Windows Vienna. I love transparency that's why this skin is definitely a plus for me. The taskbar is semi-transparent as well as the edges of windows and applications. What differentiate this skin from the others I've tried before was that the Vienna XP taskbar has rounded corners on both sides. Typically, most skins have a taskbar that extends onto the sides on the bottom of your desktop that lies flat and looks like a long bar. Vienna XP used the transparency capability of WindowBlinds (version 5+) to create the effect that the taskbar is shorter (not extended) and centered on your desktop (see picture below this post). This skin brings out a unique look and feel to your desktop. For me, it outshines Windows Vista's GUI and far more appealing.
Check out my desktop: Pimped by Vienna XP
Arzo
This Arzo skin was created by JJ.Ying.
"Transparency" is what I like most about WindowBlinds skins. So, when I came up with this skin from JJ Ying, I immediately click the "download link". I've tried his skin before, the Ecliz, and from what I've seen so far, this is superb. The Arzo was another unique skin that harness the power of transparency. Notice the task bar (image below). Look how the "Start" button was visually separated from the task bar. Cool isn't it? That's what I'm talking about, it's "uniqueness!". The second image shows the "Start Menu". Notice the transparency and the user icon above. It's the same as the menu on Windows Vista, but much cooler.
Check out my desktop: Pimped by Arzo
It is much better to appreciate these if you have a licensed version of WindowBlinds (which I do have, ble! Ahehe). The new version is version 5.5 which hosts added features from the previous versions. If you do have older versions of WindowBlinds like version 4, expect not to see transparency and per pixel alpha support. Version 4 doesn't have this capability but able to use skins that renders well on Version 5+.
I also like to clarify that WindowBlinds only changes the XP UI shell nor does it performs hack or modifies the original. Completely safe and I've been using versions of it for the past 4 years.

$500M Fiber Optic Cable Under Construction
May 1, 2007

It will "provide an alternative and a more secure link for traffic from the region to the U.S.A.," Telekom said. "This low-risk route was designed to avoid the volatile and hazardous Pacific Ring, thus mitigating the effects from natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis." Labels: Internet, Philippines, Reviews, Technology
A new fiber optic cable is being constructed to connect directly the US and Asia above the Pacific sea floor. For those of you who doesn't know, there are numerous undersea cables that are interconnected to different countries to provide cheap telecommunication services and Internet access. That is why we can connect to other countries via voice communication, data transmissions and the like. This new connection they claim is relatively safe from earthquake damage. This is in reaction to the recent event happened last December 2006 when an undersea cable linking Taiwan and the the rest of the Asian countries snapped due to an earthquake. This brought a massive slowdown on the communications and data services around that region. It took days before partial restoration has been acquired.I remember that PLDT suffered largely from what had happened. Mostly, their data services which includes PLDT MyDSL suffered a slowdown and subscribers had been complaining about it. After they heard the news, most waited for the services to be restored. Also, some other Telco's in the country have problems due to the event. I am a Digitel subscriber and I haven't experienced any problems prior to that event.
So, 17 firms including our very own Eastern Communications Philippines has signed a pact to this deal to avoid the repeat of the situation last December 2006. Telekom Malaysia leads this pact and by December 2008, they claim it will be operational. The fiber optic cable, dubbed the Asia-America Gateway, will connect the U.S. West Coast with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam and Hawaii, as well as offer "seamless interconnection" for those locations with Europe, Africa and Australia, Telekom said in a statement.
So, the benefit of this new undersea cable will be outstanding. There will be an increase in speed on voice and data communications within the two continents. More faster and reliable service will be experienced by both users in the US and Asia. Is this new cable make surfing the internet and downloading mp3 files from Limewire a lot faster than before?

Advertising Proposal from AdAuction

Labels: Internet, Philippines, Reviews
I received an email from the marketing department of AdAuction.ph. The person who emailed me offered a service that can place ads on websites and blogs. Well specifically aimed at local bloggers in the country. It works much like Google Adsense. However, most of the products here are on sale from Auction.ph, an adjacent site of AdAuction. Auction.ph is an online market service in which Filipino's can use to buy or sell products and services online. Much like eBay and Amazon."Basically, we provide on-line marketservice through our website – www.auction.ph - where businesses and consumers can sell and buy goods and services, either through auction or outright purchases."
"Just recently, we launched an adjacent site called AdAuction that is specifically designed for bloggers like you."
You need to sign-up to the AdAuction website in order to place ads. According to them, the registration is free. The details in how to create and put ads on websites or blogs are included in the email."Here is how it works: Simply display our pre-formatted ads on your page and earn a commission for every successful transaction resulting from the ad on your page. All you need is a blog or website, an AdAuction account, a little time and patience and you'll be on your way to earning easy cash! No minimum page view requirements. For more details, visit http://ad.auction.ph."
I tried signing up. It took me only minutes to set up an ad and place it on my blog. You could see on my sidebar the ad placement of AdAuction. The nice thing I found when setting up the colors of my ad is that you can set the background color as transparent. Google Adsense doesn't have that setting.
Now the question is, how much will I earn if someone made a successful purchase on Auction.ph through my blog? I've searched for some reviews about AdAuction on Google and found the review from Mr. Abe Olandres of YugaTech blog. Much of the specific reviews are found there.

Did you know that MYX channel, the number one music channel in the Philippines and owned by Asia's biggest media company, debuts their newly created website for international viewers? That was so cool, isn't it? I was hoping before that MYX music channel have it's online presence in the web by means of a website. Now, they finally launched their website, MYX TV, last February 2, 2007. Apart from those who knew MYX already here in the Philippines, this music website debut aims at Asian-Americans living in the US."There's an audience out there that's hungry for music, in all different shapes and sizes," noted MYX Channel Head, Audie Vergara. "Our website will play an integral part in helping to give our viewers more of waht they want. We want our community to take an active part in shaping the future of our channel. We recognize the power that interactivity has had and will have on the way we listen to music. Coincidentally, the rapid growth of the Asian-American youth population falls in tandem with these technological advances. There's a big opportunity here to really influence the direction that this industry is headed in the near future." link
Now, from what I read from their website, this site launch is only the first peek or preview to the upcoming launch of the MYX channel in cable TV providers in the US. There are loads of new programs and mix of Asian and American VJ's to blend in with the channel's main theme.
These are the anticipated programs to be aired:
1. Back 2 Basics
2. Backspin
3. The HOOK
4. Loveable
5. Musicbang
6. myMYX
7. The Nutshack
8. OMG!
9. Rockslide
These programs are hosted by the most elaborate and energetic VJ's which knows more about the Asian backgrounds and music. These personalities will definitely hook you up into watching and experience a new wave of music videos the US market has never seen before.
MYX doesn't only showcase Asian music, but some internationally acclaimed music artists that made some names in the music industry. From what I've seen so far, the video advertisements and the graphics are all unique. It's like a multiple music channels from the US and Asia merged and combined into one channel, which is MYX TV. I also seen an ad with special appearance of Apl.de.Ap's mom in it. It was fantastic as she speaks tagalog language. You can catch some of the advertisements by going to YouTube and search for MYX TV.
I will wait for the launching of this music channel. I wonder if they will add this into the channel line-up in the Philippine cable providers. I think it's much cooler if they will. At least we folks here could have a glimpse and taste on what the channel can bring. What about you, what do you think?

I hate when this happens. Digitel services here in our area was down for at least 26 hours. For me it was difficult to cope with knowing that you have yourself a computer but nothing else to do with it. For the past years, I mostly use our computer for internet usage. I spend at least 4 hours reading, surfing, blogging on the internet and such DSL service interruptions is not beneficial. I feel restless yesterday my routine was come to a halt. It's different though when I'm in a days or weeks vacation, I can quietly cope with that but not more than a month. Even if an internet cafe is around, I don't usually go there just to surf. In case there's a need to do so but not always actually. Labels: Internet, My Life, Philippines
Good thing today I heard the phone rang, indicating that the line was now OK. Yipee!

Next Version of Internet Explorer: IE8

Some websites I normally visit confirms that Microsoft indeed planned to develop the next version of Internet Explorer which is version 8. Internet Explorer 8.0 will be introduced at MIX 07, at the Venitian Hotel in Las Vegas between April 30 and May 2. One of the sessions at MIX 07 is addressed to designers and developers and is entitled: “First Look at the Future of IE.”
Softpedia: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Internet-Explorer-8-0-44304.shtml
At the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft has confirmed that the development of Internet Explorer 8.0 has already debuted. Coincidentally, at MIX 06, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates promised that releases of Internet Explorer will be separated by 9 to 12 months maximum. In this context, Internet Explorer 8.0 should be launched towards the final quarter of 2008.
ZDNet: Microsoft's reticence to share its timetable or even the planned version number of the next version of IE doesn't mean that information isn't starting to percolate, however. ActiveWin.com is reporting that Microsoft has decided to call the next version of IE "Internet Explorer 8.0" and that its target release date is 18 to 24 months from the IE 7 release, making IE 8 a 2008-2009 deliverable.
For me, it looks like IE will follow it's trend from Mozilla where Firefox releases new version of it's internet browser annually or 2 times a year with a handful of beta's and alpha's undergoing development. Mozilla last year announces the development of Firefox 3 code named "Gran Paradiso" to be released in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2007. Right now, Alpha 1 version of Firefox 3 is I think available now for testing.
For the mean time, I'll be posting my experiences using Firefox 3 Alpha 1: Gran Paradiso in the couple of days. Check back again for new posts and updates.

Latest Version of Google Earth (Release 4)

I'm always been a fan of GoogleEarth since it was first released. The functions and features of this application is superb. However, if you want to see the full capabilities this application has to offer, you must go to any of the US cities because you can see 3D buildings, complete road maps, dining locations and many more other places can't have. For example, I live in the Philippines and only high resolution images of the key and popular cities here in the country are available. Some of the information presented on the map are inaccurately. Well, I hope someday someone will provide a 3D image of the buildings in Makati, that'll be cool.

Features of GoogleEarth Release 4 (Jan.08.07)
Explore Rich 3D Content
Seeing 3D terrain and buildings is one of the coolest features of Google Earth. We’ve added higher-quality terrain data for many mountainous regions, as well as support for "textured" 3D buildings–meaning bricks look like real bricks, glass looks like real glass, and overall, the world looks more like the real world. It's just one more step on the path of creating a life-like 3D model of the whole planet.
Create and Share Geographic InformationMillions of Google Earth users add and share geographic information every day using .KML, the Google Earth file format. In Google Earth 4 we’ve expanded that capability. Now you can view travel photos, hiking trails uploaded from your GPS, overlays of your own imagery, or large geographic data sets. You can even time-stamp the data to create animations of how the world changes over time. Explore Google Earth Showcase for some popular examples.
Less Is More - A New UI
The most obvious change is a new, simpler user interface.
We've reorganized the data layers to make them easier to find and to toggle on and off. The navigation compass is now located in the upper right corner of the screen (this gives you more screen space). And the measure, print, email, and drawing tools are in the new toolbar along the top.Annotate, modify and share
You can easily sketch figures on the imagery for richer annotations and share these overlays as KML or KMZ files using the path and polygon drawing tools. These screenshots are examples of annotations created using the drawing tools in Google Earth.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Trailer

I was scanning the web for some interesting articles and posts when I stumble upon an entry from Digg.com about the new movie trailer of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I click the link and been able to watch it. Watch the trailer below.
What can I say? We'll from what I've seen so far is it is a superb one. Also, I notice that Harry cut his hair to make it shorter. Then some scenes in the trailer where Harry is flying within the London skyline. According to the trailer, Dumbledore is worried about the threat, the comeback of Voldemort who believed to be creating it's own army. There's a scene where two persons kissed each other. It's not clear in the trailer if it is Harry and Hermione or Ron or Hermione, or someone else. The date of it's release is on July 13th 2007. I can't wait to see this movie on the big screen.
Comments are highly appreciated.

Spiderman 3 Trailer on YouTube

My reactions and my upcoming comments about this trailer will be posted tomorrow.
UPDATE: YouTube removed the video. Oh well, I'll still post some comments about it. Stay tuned!
11/14/06
First of all, I was very excited to see the trailer of the 3rd installment of Spiderman movie set to be released in theaters on May 4, 2007. Seeing the trailer on YouTube last night made me anxious and hope that May 4 will be like next month. hehe
The trailer of Spiderman 3 on YouTube was not the ordinary kind of trailer you had seen perhaps. This trailer contains some raw footages and captions that convinced me that this is not it's final trailer preview. Although it looked like one, some footages especially when spidey perform his web slinging action looks just like a scene from the PC game.
The sequence of the trailer was outstanding. The sounds, the actors and actresses themselves... you won't wait until next year to see this movie.
However, since the individual who uploaded the trailer on YouTube violated Sony's permission, YouTube ripped off the trailer on it's database this morning (8:00 GMT). At least I saw the full trailer.
I heard that Sony confirms it's Spiderman 3 official trailer. Next stop, Apple Trailers.
