Eagleman Joins Entrecard

I've seen a lot of bloggers joining this online business card program called Entrecard. Most of the Pinoy Blogs I usually visit today contains what they call "Blog of the Day" or "Featured Blog" on their sidebar that features Entrecard blog avatars (pics) which links to that blog. These avatars are from blogs that where approved by the site owner to be shown/advertise for full 24 hours. This is indeed a nice way to get a substantial amount of traffic to your blog and at the same time provide or share traffic from your blog to others. However, I'm shying away from joining the hype of subscribing and putting Entrecard widgets on my blog before. Even if everyone else hopped on the bandwagon and enjoy the benefits of increased blog traffic. I dunno, I just don't feel the urge to join that time. But then, it's all about to change.
Christmas day, I decided to join Entrecard on the start of the year 2008. And so I did. At first it was quite confusing. Don't know how to earn credits or even advertise at first until I stumble upon this Help section and read the details many times just to understand it carefully. Advert requests are piling up as well as the number of cards dropped on my site. It was fun seeing the stats rise from 0. I must drop my cards to those blogs listed on the Campaign menu to earn credits. It was that easy! I already seen the effects on my blog traffic stats 15 minutes after putting the widget on my blog. Cool!
If you're a blogger and haven't joined the Entrecard craze, why not visit their site, watch the video and sign-up. Already a member, dropped your card Now!

FTP problems and some desperate thingie

It's been three days since my blog's sFTP publishing got hay wired. I'm figuring out which to blame: my webhost or bloggers ftp platform. Since that day, whenever I re-publish my blog to my webhost, the process took a long time than normal. I never saw the percentage indicator on the right side while publishing and after 2 minutes it will report an error. "Your blog published with errors!". I viewed my blog and searched for some anomalies or missing pages. All was fine but then it worries me a bit. “Ok before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Cause I would just like to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines." Labels: Blogger, Opinions, Philippines, Reviews
I searched Google groups for the same problems I encounter and found some similar that dated back last month. A server was at fault that created the problem according to the Blogger groups moderator. It was fixed before October started but until last night I'm still experience the lag and the error. I hope that this post will be posted as soon as I hit the publish button.
[Update: October 5] You're able to read this post, that means Blogger's ftp publishing is working again.
Desperate thingie
The Filipino community in America has raised their concerns about the episode on the Desperate Housewives aired last Sunday. Here's the video clip of that specific scene in that episode.
This video clip hosted on YouTube spread like wildfire and Pinoys in America demanded an apology from the show's producers. Their anger and outrage reverberated until it reach us here in the Philippines. In the Philippine blogosphere, there are a lot of reactions. Most expressed their anger and disgust towards the show claiming that they discriminate us Filipinos. There are also those that are calm, that shed light on the current situation and that the issue should be analyzed first before taking it to the next level. Last night, the media joined the controversy. TV Patrol World aired the YouTube along with the statement release of Sec. Eduardo Ermita in behalf of Malacanang. DOH and some politicians and in the movie industry expressed their concerns on the matter. All of them demanded a written or public apology from the show and it's producers. Airing this report last night will surely add fuel to the raging fire and put the issue in the long run. Let's hope that this issue will ease out as soon as possible.
[additional comment] In my opinion, it's natural for anyone to be offended by such negative remarks against them. Me, I got offended at first. However, seeing the facts and reading all reactions from different set of people, I think we should analyze the situation first. The important thing is that we should not be impulsive in our decisions (I'm guilty of this...sometimes). I think it's enough that the network already sent their apologies to us. Peace World!

Blog Status Part 1
Sep 12, 2007
JP aka Elmo
Eagleman Blog
Blogger

I announced earlier on my previous post that my blog will be on a 1, 2 or 3 week hiatus. The plan of moving my blogspot blog to my own hosting and domain were among the reasons for the sudden blog silence. A week passed and it seems that I've done 80-90% of my work including the unplanned reconstruction and facelifting of my blog template and the main site. For the time being, I decided to post again knowing that there are some minor codes to add to finish my blog template. You can also check the main site although still incomplete, I don't have any plans of removing it.
On my webhosting, I'm still reading the cPanel documentation and exploring it's settings and features. The Awstats under Web/FTP is the most compelling and probably my most visited section on the cPanel. It let's you see your domain's site statistics. Much like Google Analytics. Here, I can figure out the broken links on my site, the number of visits and how many times the site is crawled every day. Although it updates just every 24 hours, not real time, this tool helps you in diagnosing common problems and analyze traffic for your site.
As I've mentioned before, I moved my blog under my new hosting and domain. In Blogger, I've changed the publishing settings from blogspot domain to sFTP publishing. sFTPpublishing means that I'll be publishing my blog to my webhost using the Secure File Transfer Protocol. Instead of having my post on blogspot, Blogger now tranfers my posts, archives, rss on my domain. It was hard at first especially that I'm new to ftp publishing, The settings under Blogger's FTP was confusing until I figure it out after several trials. I need to setup an FTP account on my hosting which includes username and password so that Blogger can seamlessly transfer my blog to my hosting account. There are times that FTP connections between Blogger and my webhost won't respond to each other. Most part of my experience, the transfer was 100% ok.
Accomplishing those comes with some risks. Previous direct links on one of my posts that are previously indexed by search engines cause some broken links. Since I've changed my blog URL, all the search engine traffic now lands on my main blog page. Visitors need to search that specific posts they want to see or read. That'll be confusing for them and the reason why some of them leave my site early. My Technorati rank lost 20 precious links and my Feedburner subscription fell. I predicted these problems before and it's up to me to at least fix those or renew my inbound links again.
I've done some of the solutions and fixes to that and you can read all about that on my next post. I also added information on how I did my site and blog template. For now, I'll continue my re-coding of my blog.

Been uber busy for the past weeks. I'm not able to attend some meetups and I forgot to take a bath one day. It's true, I mean it. For some of you who doesn't know, I have a web hosting and a new domain (JPMonje.NET). I have it last August 25 and since then I'm focusing a lot of my time developing and ceating webpages for my site. At first, I thought of moving my blogspot blog to wordpress or make a new blog from scratch using Wordpress. Then the idea of sticking to my blogspot blog and change my publishing settings to ftp so that I can make my url blog address fall on my domain. I still can't decide prior to this. The new address will fall under my new domain as a sub-domain or a directory. Last week, I'm able to publish my index.html page courtesy of a pre-made template I found on the web. I used my graphic suite to modify the images to put my title in it. It is fairly up and live right now. However, I noted on my site that it will be fully running and complete by 15th of September. Later, I changed it from 15 to 28th to maximize my time. As for my blog's template, I'm thinking if I should incorporate the design of the main site with it. It looks nice if your site and the blog under it has at least the same design. It brings uniformity and unity among the two pages.
The problem is, I should create a new blogspot template or a wordpress theme. Whichever blog platform I use, I should create a code from scratch to mimic the design or theme of the main site. The wordpress version of the main theme is available on the web but with a price subscription. I don't want to spend some money just for a theme. *Sigh! It may take a long time to do this. i don't know If I can update my current blog as the deadline will be the 4th week of September. For my blog readers (if there are), please bear with me as I tweak my blog from time to time. You may see some irregularities this coming days on my blog due to code gratification. If you follow me on twitter, I may post some announcements regarding my blog.
For now, I announce that I, JP aka Elmo and my blog, will be on temporary hiatus until further notice of it's end. Yah heard! wahh! Goodluck to me! :D

Taste Asia 2 and Abigail's Birthday
Aug 27, 2007

SM Hypermarket held it's first blogger writing contest that was previously announced last July 3, 2007 at Taste Asia. Last Thursday, it's the time to announce the winners from the blog writing contest. Taste Asia 2, was also a venue to meet bloggers of all shapes and sizes and a chance for others who failed to attend the first Taste Asia event. Lots of free food, drinks, raffles and freebies. Hosted by Marcelle and Sorsi, the event went smoothly until 11 pm.
But before that, It is rather my custom to watch at least a movie before I go to a meetup or an event that is held around the Makati area. I did a movie marathon from 12:00 pm up tp 7:00 pm at Glorietta. Bourne Ultimatum and Evan Almighty were my pick for that day. I planned to add one, Rush Hour 3, but I ran out of time. I decided to leave Glorietta and arrive at MoA 30 minutes later. I met Karlo and Allen then Jehzlau alongside the registration booth. I also saw and met Jerico and Eric, saw Billycoy, Doc Tess, LA and Darwin. Followed by Yatot and Lalon who came late. I met Benj and Joe and some of the new first time blogger attendees. Karlo, Silkenhut and Jehzlau roamed the insides and corners of Taste Asia to gather up more signatures. Which later paid off by winning some give aways/prizes courtesy of Knorr products. The event was full of bloggers and guests, at least 300 of us. It was a fun night.
Some of us stayed at the premises until 1 am. AJ, Doc Tess, Darwin, Allen, Jehzlau, Benj and I then decided to transfer to Starbucks at Blue Wave. Lalon left before we take a cab. Benj also left earlier after we arrived there. The rest of us spent 3 hours just chatting and sharing issues and spoilers. It's nice to have a conversation with bloggers offline. We left almost 4 am and I arrived at San Pedro an hour and a half later.
Saturday afternoon, I went to Taguig to attend the birthday celebration of my friend Abigail. I arrived at around 6 pm aside from the usual scheduled meetup at 4. It is a custom for most of the prex to arrive late whenever we organize a meetup. What surprised me was that I was the first among the prex to arrive at Abby's house. Followed by Mae and Jerome then later Galvin, we gathered around the cake and Abby blew the candle. It was so high school that the cake even had a number "23" candle on top of it. Unfortunatley Galvin left earlier and the rest of us stayed, watched a movie and sang karaokes. Some of the prex never made it despite their confirmation. We REALLY had a good time! Lol! 12 am we decided it quits and went home. Abby, if you're reading this, Happy 23 Birthday again.
I'll add some later, I need to prepare myself as of this writing. I'll go to Cabuyao, Laguna to meet some relatives. Link love also later.
Spoiler: Blog migration is imminent. Find out next month. Wee!

This is a delayed post (a day late actually) about the event (Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2007) held last Wednesday August 1, 2007 at Max's Restaurant in Park Square Makati. I never had the chance to create an entry of the said event due to my trip to Batangas pier yesterday. I had to accompany my mom into delivering 8 large bags of Natasha products to be shipped in Romblon (even at that time I have a headache). 1. An Apple A Day and The Philosophical Bastard 2. The D Spot 3. Cokskiblue 4. Make Money Online With a 13-year old 5. Culture Shiok and UtakGago 6. Kubiertos 7. FruityOaty and PinoyBlogero 8. The Dork Factor and The Anitokid Chronikos 9. Gibbs Cadiz 10. Confessions of a Hopeless Romantic Labels: Blogger, Event, Philippines
Anyways, I like to thank Ms. Janette Toral and the participating sponsors for organizing such a successful event. This is my 2nd time to attend a blogger EB since last July 3 at the Taste Asia Event.
But before I went to the event, I've been inside Glorietta since 2 pm that day. I decided to watch a movie before going to Max's Restaurant. I watched "Ratatouille" twice just to spend the rest of my time sleeping inside the cinema and for myself to arrive at the exact time. After that, I proceeded to Park Square and saw Ms. Shari of Misteryosa at the bench outside of the restaurant. She informed me that Karlo of Pinoyblogero was already up on the 2nd floor. So I went inside and greeted him. Karlo introduced me to Allen of Silkenhut, a first timer in a blogger event, and a number of bloggers at that time. So far, I met the persons behind the blogs that I nominated. They were Jhed, Moses and Coy. Present also in the event were Agent Grey, Heneroso (who won a 100 dollar from the raffle), Carl Ocab, Jehzlau... to name a few. (I forgot the other names). I never had the chance to win a 100 dollar from the raffle but I did get some sch wags to take home. Thanks to Ms. PJ for giving me an original copy of Granado Espada. I also got an original CD installation of Perfect World online game from the guys at Level Up and some magazines.
Then the part bloggers are waiting for, the announcement of the top 10. But before that, I'll make this opportunity to promote and thank the following:

Here are the top 10 emerging influential blogs of 2007 winners:

I knew about this Top 10 emerging influential blogs in 2007 months ago and have seen bloggers participated in this writing project popularized by Ms. Janette Toral. Only those blogs that started anytime from August 1, 2006 to the present have this privileged to be nominated among the top 10 by their fellow bloggers. Labels: Blogger, Others, Philippines
To join this effort, please do the following:
* Write a blog post and pick your choice of 10 (or less) emerging influential blogs. Any blog in the world can be picked. (You can update the same post entry up to July 28.)
* Include a link to this post to help spread the word. (Hope you can also vote for it in Digg)
* Post a comment and let us know about your entry. Only one entry per blogger. Cut-off date and time for submission of entries is on July 28, Saturday, 5:00 pm (GMT+8). Afterwards, submission of comments in this page shall be closed.
It's hard to think of blogs that should belong in the top 10. I do read plenty of blogs and a handful of them are the one's which I spend 20-40 minutes of my free time reading. I like to include them on my list. However, most of their blogs are 2-3 years old and cannot be included in the list. So I picked the ones that fall under the rules and I came up with 6 influential blogs of 2007 list.

Sorry Jhed, as of this time, your site is still down and I don't have any image of your blog. As soon as your's are online, I'll modify it as soon as possible. There you go, my 6 emerging influential blogs of 2007.
Update July 28, 2007: Image preview of Jhed's blog now available.

First Blogniversary Post and New Domain Launch
Jul 20, 2007
JP aka Elmo
Eagleman Blog

What should I say ba? Happy blog anniversary or Happy blogniversary? No matter. I should have posted this yesterday but because of my tight schedules (kuno), I wasn't able to. I can't believe my blog made it for more than 12 months, 365 days now in the blogosphere. It was like a month ago where I first launch this second blog of mine. (Sus!) Spooky how time flies. Anyways, I don't know what to add on this blogniversary post. (Thinking). Maybe I'll just reminisce and share to you the time when I initially decided to create a new blog in Blogger a year ago. Then, I'll detail some of my future plans with this blog. Mmm... Ok, game!
I started to create my 2nd blog in one of the webs most popular blog hosting service, Blogger. An incident happened to my Friendster hosted blog where a spammer inundated one of my post with at least 1000+ spam comments. Friendster blogs doesn't have this option to moderate comments or provide "captcha's" whenever an individual leaves a comment. Apart from it, the blog layout provided by them were very strict, in a sense that only a handful of codes and html elements can be tweaked. I grew tired of it when nothing happened after I reported the incident to the technical guys there at Friendster. My blog started to load up more slowly than usual because of the number of spam messages flooded my sidebar.
F*ck, Friendster blogs. So, I decided to start from scratch and look for a free blog hosting service. Blogger came into my view, followed the steps in creating and then in no time... walla, my blog was born.
At first, I created a post about my package delivered to me from The Netherlands containing my free ordered Ubuntu CD's. The rest was history. No niche yet to categorize, I decided to perform some experiment s on my blog. SEO optimization was the first then followed by monetization. It worked well, Google spiders are able to index my blog. My blog is earning a very little amount of cents every week (at least I earn, hehe). Halway through my blogging, I focused more on my keywords, my content and my post titles. Began feed-ing my blog through Feedburner, subscribe my blog through blog networks and Technorati. Put blog statistics to track my visitors and page views (I'm addict when it comes to this), and many more. I receive substantial amount of comments from passers-by and my readers. Then, I made a sure decision to categorize my blog as a "Personal blog". One's personal views about anything and it worked unto this day.
List of my previous posts (worth reading)
Club MYX CD
Telenovela's: Success behind its theme songs
Some SMART annoyances I want to share
Transform images into sketch/charcoal drawings using Corel Photopaint
Typhoon Milenyo
When my PC died
Preparing the Christmas Decor and the Accident
Checkpoint Incident, Airplane Experience and 2-6 meter waves
Two to six meter waves
Something to cheer you up
My future plans
1. Buy a domain (which I already did, and now it's working).
2. Some minor changes to my layout, for the time being.
3. Change my posting frequency or create a posting schedule.
4. Won't indulge myself into getting serious about blogging. Anyways, blogging for me is just a hobby and an expression of myself to the world.
5. Try to avoid grammatical errors which still I'm able to do up to this writing. Wee!
Domain Launch
Last Tuesday, July 17, I bought a new domain "jpmonje.com". I decided to purchase one from Ploghost. The reason for having one is to make my blog address a bit shorter to type. The experience of having a domain with my name initials together with my last name is the one I'm after. However, I'm still communicating with the techie guys at ploghost about my "custom domain" settings in Blogger. My domain is only redirecting it's address to my blogspot address. I wish to have the permanent domain address "jpmonje.com" to show on the address bar instead of the blogspot domain.

Bloggers got a taste of Taste Asia last night
Jul 4, 2007
JP aka Elmo
Eagleman Blog
Blogger

Wee! I finally met the bloggers behind the famous blogs in the Philippine blogosphere. It was my first time to attend this kind of event where I mingled with fellow bloggers that I've known online. It wasn't easy to fit in at first, but on the long run I get the hang of it as I introduced myself to new faces.
The event was held in Taste Asia located at the north wing of the SM Mall of Asia. I was invited days before the event by Lalon and later agreed to come. I ask for Ms. Shari to put me on the list so I can attend the said event. Yesterday July 3, I went to Glorietta to watch Transformers movie before going to the event. "Tutal, I'll be going out naman, so why not watch a movie first before going to the event. I'll be meeting also 2 of my prex's after the movie so I can hand over the mp3 CD I burned for them. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the movie because heck it was long... 2 hours and 30 minutes and that time I need to meet my friends at Food choices in G4. We parted ways and me rode a bus going to MoA.
Upon arriving at MoA, I looked for Lalon who is currently waiting for me outside McDonalds. He introduced himself to me which I did too aftwerwards. We headed out to look for the establishment, asked the guard for directions and tada... there it is, Taste Asia. We registered, get our name stickers and went inside. A bit nervous that time for a first timer like me, I looked around to see some familiar faces. I first saw and recognized Karlo of Pinoyblogero. His avatar look-a-like on his blog looks just like him. Hehe. Then we were introduced to some of the bloggers like Yatot, Shari, Neil, Jerico, LA, Billycoy, Eric Dee, Darwin, Ms.Tess and Poell. Wow, for the first time I finally meet them in flesh. We saw this Clique booth right next to our table and decided to take a picture. Anyways, it's free. (Imagine, how much the company behind cliquebooth spend that night. Not to mention the prints which came out from a Canon photo-printer)
Let's get to the food shall we? The food was oh so yummy. The chicken which I later found out was a thai cuisine, the odd looking bamboo shells which I never had a chance to try , the barbecue, and oh yes... the sisig...yeah the sisig. There are also fries with dips and tacos/nachos along with it. The famous chocolate fountain and some foods that I never tried that time. The food was free and delicious, it's just enough for me. There's a raffle hosted by Mr. Jayvee and bloggers that had a call card with their name were required to submit it in a fishbowl to be picked randomly and be called to win a prize. I never made a call card simply because of lack of time. I tried my way of creating at least 20 that morning but I found out that my printer ran out of ink. Some of my co-blogger friends won a prize. At the end of the event, at least I have a chance to take home a fried siomai which luckily fit inside my small hand bag.
*I saw Mr. Abe in the event and I wish I could've shake hands with him, but my shyness prevented me that time. Huhu. Another funny memory from the event was this guy who happened to be a look-a-like of "Hiro Nakamura" from the TV series "Heroes". It looks just like him. We joked around and made a bet on who can go to this guy and shout the word "Yatta! (I did It!)" in front of him. No one dared. Haha. So far, the event was a blast. Although some manage to stay up until morning, I together with the "first-timers" went home around 11:30 pm. It was a fun and memorable night. I hope to attend another one of this blogger events. Here's a photo shot from the event. Courtesy of Mr. Lalon. Other pics can be found on Jerico's Multiply and our shot at Cliquebooth.
Ok, that's it. Back to my working schedule... as a housemaid. Wahehe. Linis bahay, luto pagkain, hugas pinggan...dami pa... everyday yan since our previous maid swooshed away without a notice last month. Nakakapagod din pala ang maging maid. We're currently looking for a new one and if you're interested just give me a call, text or email, ok? :p

I changed my header as you see above to blend in with the new year. As you noticed, there's a new title "Ako si Eagleman" or "I am Eagleman". What's with the new title? Well, it is actually a snippet of what was said by the boy on the Kokokrunch commercial. It then stuck to my brain and never let go. hehe.
Every season or so, I had to change the header title, but not the main title which is Elmo's Kablogblogan. It's cumbersome to change my blog title because this will affect my Google search queries. For now, that is my header title. I'm still testing other designs and graphics to be put on my blog.

The new version of Blogger in beta is dead!
Long live the new version of Blogger!
(P.S. The old version of Blogger is not dead, but it would like to retire for a little while... maybe go to Hawaii or play World of Warcraft all day? It begs you to let it play World of Warcraft all day.)
The new version of Blogger is metaphorically bursting with features, from the big guns like drag-and-drop template editing and post labels (which are perfect, by the way, for indexing the 131 historical figures you may have written about), to little polishes like a better-designed Dashboard or that you no longer need to solve a word verification CAPTCHA to post a comment on your own blog.

Feed Problems

My blog is currently experiencing feed problems regarding the distribution of my posts both in email subscriptions, bookmarks and in feed reader applications. For those of you who are subscribed to my feeds, please bear with me. As Blogger, my blog host and provider, assess and fixed this problem as soon as possible.
This is the first time that my blog experienced this feed problem. I was alarmed when I found out that Feedburner reported that my RSS feed had problems. Same thing with my Google Sitemaps account when it reported errors syndicating my feeds. This is a TOTAL INCONVENIENCE especially to my subscribers. Immediate fix is highly appreciated.
UPDATE September 25: Blogger had provided a temporary workaround for the feeds. A new address was provided for my feed and other blogger users feeds. I modified my feed account on Feedburner and it already syndicated my posts. Those of you who are subscribed to my feeds may see that my feeds are available. However, my Google Sitemap still reporting and error, hope this will be fixed soon.

As well as tools and options to make it easier for blogger users to design their blogs without the need to tweak some of the template codes.
Below are the snapshots of the new blogger beta. click them to see a larger view.
I never upgrade my template to the new beta at the moment because the HTML editing tool is not yet available. I'll stick to the classic template and as soon as the tool is ready, I'll convert it.

However, the changes into the log-in also brought problems remembering my username and password in blogger). As I look at the log-in section more closely, I was surprised to see a heading that say's "Sign in with your Blogger or Google Account". Wait a minute, is there something in here that I don't know? I quickly glanced down the page to look at the news/announcement section of blogger but there's none and later found out that it was on the "Blogger Buzz". The moment I saw that Google logo in there I immediately thought of a new version or something like that. Since I have a google account, I log-in using my google's username and password. You'll be greeted by a graphical button saying "Create your blog now". Wait, I don't have to create a blog since I have two already. Then there's a note saying "Already a blogger user? Switch Now". I click switch and taken to a page about the new blogger beta. I fill up my blogger username and password, click the check box then click continue. Unfortunately, I receive a "Could not switch you to the new Blogger" because according to them, they are switching a limited number of users to that new version as of this moment.
Looks like blogger has been keeping up with the demand blogger users have been craving for an additional features on it's blog services. Just in time with the beta release of Live Writer.
