Eagleman Joins Entrecard

I've seen a lot of bloggers joining this online business card program called Entrecard. Most of the Pinoy Blogs I usually visit today contains what they call "Blog of the Day" or "Featured Blog" on their sidebar that features Entrecard blog avatars (pics) which links to that blog. These avatars are from blogs that where approved by the site owner to be shown/advertise for full 24 hours. This is indeed a nice way to get a substantial amount of traffic to your blog and at the same time provide or share traffic from your blog to others. However, I'm shying away from joining the hype of subscribing and putting Entrecard widgets on my blog before. Even if everyone else hopped on the bandwagon and enjoy the benefits of increased blog traffic. I dunno, I just don't feel the urge to join that time. But then, it's all about to change.

Christmas day, I decided to join Entrecard on the start of the year 2008. And so I did. At first it was quite confusing. Don't know how to earn credits or even advertise at first until I stumble upon this Help section and read the details many times just to understand it carefully. Advert requests are piling up as well as the number of cards dropped on my site. It was fun seeing the stats rise from 0. I must drop my cards to those blogs listed on the Campaign menu to earn credits. It was that easy! I already seen the effects on my blog traffic stats 15 minutes after putting the widget on my blog. Cool!

If you're a blogger and haven't joined the Entrecard craze, why not visit their site, watch the video and sign-up. Already a member, dropped your card Now!

Blog Status 3 - The Last Part

This is the end of my Trilogy post about my blog status progress report. For those people who are new here can go to my previous reports on my Blog Status Part 1 and Blog Status Part 2 report. I'm noting all my experiences in a 3 part post of my blog's progress since the time I moved my blog from a free blogspot domain to a new host and paid domain.

The previous post was all about the risks my blog encountered during and after the transition. I also provided my own solutions to the problems and noted all the steps and procedures that I've taken. I mentioned also that I change my new layout/theme courtesy of a website template. I converted the free website template into a blog template and did share some of the tools I used to create the layout.

What I did earlier today was to separate the embedded stylesheet into an external CSS file. I merged them before into one, putting the external CSS codes to HTML to act as an inline stylesheet. That way, I could easily modify the codes since I was using Notepad at that time. After the 3 week blog layout tweaks, I decided to separate them. The plan is to reduce the file size of every HTML pages on my hosting every time I republish my blog. That way, I can expand my free space on my hosting. This afternoon, I already seen the changes to my used space. My blog previously eats 14.87MB of space, 32.45MB over all. After I extracted the CSS codes into 1 file, my used space came down from 32.45MB to 29.56MB. That was a 2.89MB decrease and an additional free space. It may seem small but think of the future space my blog will eat up If I never extracted the CSS from the HTML pages. However, I may change or modify just a tiny fraction of the CSS codes to correct or adjust something on my blog. I'll just simply edit the CSS file right there on my cPanel File Manager.

Some of the additions I made today was the "Dailies". I specify site/blog links below that I mostly read and visited everyday. Added also a XSPF player created from Flash that plays my featured music for that week and revived my tagboard just for kicks. All songs streamed from the player are in 128kbps streaming audio, MP3 in format. Just to add some entertainment and to take advantage of my monthly 10GB bandwidth. :D

Last, I want to share to you the longest first ever downtime of my blog thanks to my web hosting. Since this post is all about my blog's progress report, the event happened that evening falls under this. It happened around 11:00 PM Friday when accessing my blog takes too long to respond. The domain is working but my hosting has something to do with it. I checked their website and found out that it too can't be accessed. My hosting is down and everything they hosted is all down as well. My blogger friend Allen who happened to be the same hosting provider as I am also suffered downtimes. It lasted for at least 11 hours. I was able to log in to my cPanel again around 10:00 AM Saturday morning. I quickly send them a support ticket about the downtime and this afternoon, Monday I got a response.

    Hi,

Are you still encountering any problems accessing your site?

I replied to them that I can access my host and my site right now. I asked them again why did the downtime lasted for that long. If they had some maintenance to do, they should somehow post it on their website ahead of the scheduled downtime. That way, customers know what will happen on their sites. They replied again.

    Hi,

We've added a new server for better and faster service..

Thank you for bearing with us.

If there will be another, I don't think I gonna bear this again. GoDaddy, here I come. Hah!
    That's it. Me swooshed away.
