Pastoral Visit

I had a chance to go to Romblon, Romblon and be a part of the Pastoral Visit where his excellency Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc visited the Parish of St. Joseph Cathedral last thursday, July 12, 2008. I went along with my mom and aunt Gennie from Looc to San Agustin then to Romblon, Romblon on a pumpboat. Along the 45 minute journey, we saw a lot of dolphins playing in the area. Too bad it was far away for my camera to zoom in. Anyways, I enjoyed watching those dolphins jumping out of the water.

Boracay Escapade

I never been to Boracay island before, nor step into its white fine powdery sand. I only had a chance to see it from afar aboard the “Mary the Queen” of the MBRS shipping lines last year. I hoped that one day I could plan/schedule a trip at least overnight stay in Boracay or let someone take me with them. Expenses going to and back from Boracay will surely drain out my savings. Thinking of the possibilities that would enable me to visit Boracay island, none seems to pop out. Waiting for the day when I were granted a chance to go to Boracay, its just a simple trip that would fulfill my dream to reality.

Trip to Iloilo

Last May, me and some of my folks went to Iloilo for a one week vacation. It was planned weeks before and my mom told me to go back in Laguna so we can leave for Iloilo together. We also brought our Toyota Revo for our transport and plan to travel via RORO (Roll-on, Roll-off). I never experienced traveling via a RORO route before. It was a bit exciting on my part. This was my first time to travel via RORO.

Kanidugan Festival

Very late post, my apologies. I was able to see the Kanidugan Festival parade last April 5, 2008 which passed by in front of our shop here in Odiongan, Romblon. Kanidugan means nidog or niyog (coconut) which the town of Odiongan celebrate every year. The townsfolk also celebrate their fiesta in favor of Saint Vincent Ferrer. I quickly took some shots of the parade.

Punta Corazon Beach Resort

I want to share this to my fellow bloggers and to my loyal readers about this remote beach resort in Romblon, Romblon. I had the chance to go there together with my cousins just to visit the place believed to be the hidden treasure in the island. The entrance fee costs around P60 for adults and a discount for children. The very location of Punta Corazon is hidden from the main road. Getting there from the town proper requires you to hire/ride a tricycle. The road leading to the entrance of the resort is not passable for vehicles. A 3-4 minute walk is required to reach the main entrance.

Gone for a Week

I am scheduled to leave for Odiongan, Romblon on the del8th/del 12th of December 2007. I’ll be checking out the new rented place (spacious floor area 4×6 meters) for our business (along with the merchandising and soon-to-include iCafe). The said establishment is located in front of the Romblon State University. Complete with a comfy bed, bathroom and a kitchen, this will be my second home to stay for a few days. I may travel from one place to another like to Looc, Romblon (another branch) and to the capital of Romblon (where my uncle priest resides there) for example. It may be one of the not-so remote provinces in the country but data connections like Internet and mobile networks are readily available.
I had to spend some dime on renting a PC on Internet cafe’s there. The last time I did was back in the summer of 2005 and the connection speed was like worse than dialup. If that’s the case even the day I arrived there, I’ll have to rely on my mom’s N92 to check out email and reply to comments. Besides, even without 3G connection in that area, GPRS (Smart) still dominates the data connections for mobile devices. A little bit slower though than 3G.

UPDATE: It should be “Gone for 2 days” not “Gone for a Week”. Wahehe. I need to go back gain after I went to Romblon last Wednesday. Imagine you left for Romblon at 5 pm last Wednesday and arrived 4:00 am Thursday. Then the same day, you left Romblon at 5 pm to Batangas. It was tiring, really. Long story. I’ll be back there again on the 20th.

Using Google Earth to measure distances

I’ve been fascinated by the way Google Earth provides near accurate measurement of distances of two locations plotted on the application. I said near accurate because of the way hi-resolution images is overlayed here in the Philippines. The case may be different well in the US where almost 90% of it’s maps and high resolution images are accurate. If you happen to hover around some of the available hi-resolution images here in the Philippines, you may find some images that are mis-aligned. Particular locations I found was the area were Splash Island in Binan, Laguna is located. As you can see below, the road is shifted and the continuation of it is located meters above the original.
