Personal Review of Windows 7 Release Candidate Part 2

This is the second part of my personal review of Windows 7 release candidate. Here, I share my first hands on experience with this upcoming OS from Microsoft. This week I learned that Windows 7 is confirmed to be available before the holiday season. Yep, Redmond guys already confirmed this official launch to be final unless something happens along the way that will postpone it. Don’t worry, this is only a typical Microsoft OS launching you should get used to. Let’s hope not. Heehee.

Personal Review of Windows 7 Release Candidate Part 1

Windows 7 will be the next OS Microsoft will introduce to the market after Windows Vista. The tech guys at Redmond claimed that this new Windows OS is much faster and simpler from its predecessors. Your PC Simplified! Microsoft made hundreds of little improvements and a few big ones that add up to a whole lot less. Less waiting, fewer clicks, and less complexity. Windows 7 helps you do more. More work, more play, and more of everything in between. Making every task simpler and every day easier.

When my PC died.

Bad things happen and it will hit you very hard especially if you don’t expect it coming. What I’m talking about is my PC.
Friday night, 3rd of November 2006, the PC went abnormal. It started hanging and restarting until it hangs between the boot up process.. I also saw this BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) indicating an error about “Kernel Data Inpage Error” then the PC restarted again. “What the heck was that error all about?”. It was my first time to encounter that error and my second time to come face-to-face with BSOD (we’ll I think I last saw it 3 years ago. *sigh). Anyways, I tried booting into safe mode and able to go to the “Event Viewer” and see the errors that the system might have recorded. I was surprised to see at lot of “atapi” error on the log. I turned my other PC, search the internet about that error, and then find what causes that error or If it had something to do with the PC’s abnormal behavior. I read the forums and the articles about the error. All have in common, either my system had a bad IDE controller, a damaged hard drive and the worst, bad motherboard. I’m not surprised to say the least. I’m expecting that in the 4th quarter of 2006 will be the precautionary stage and when my spider sense tells me that the PC will not make it until December 2006. And so it did, my PC died that night. It’s not new to me because the motherboard has been operational for the last 5 years (although it suffered the same problem 1 1/2 years ago and been able to revive by replacing a damaged and burnt out capacitor). Actually, the problem before repeated that night. I had a glimpse of the motherboard and saw this two capacitor somehow bended into one another. You could see in the picture that the skin or the outer covering of one of the capacitor had been torn off. The heads of this capacitor were bulging. It means it has burned due to high temperature.

Windowblinds skin: NovumOS

I found this great GUI skin “a style=”font-weight: bold;” href=”http://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1SkinID=5788amp;LibID=1″NovumOS/a” in a style=”font-weight: bold;” href=”http://www.wincustomize.com/”Wincustomize/a website as I was looking under windowblinds section. I’m kinda bored with the current GUI skin so it’s time for a new one. This new skin looks fresh, nature themed Vista styled interface. The usual boring XP “start” menu button will transform into a leaf after applying the skin. Click on it and it acts just like the default XP start menu. I love it, it’s unique than what I’ve seen so far. Definitely, I rate it 5 stars.br /br /blockquotespan style=”font-style: italic;”WindowBlinds changes the look and feel of your Windows GUI by applying visual styles to your entire Windows environment. Version 5 is the newest, contains some added improvements and functionalities. I did try this free new software version last year for 60 days trial period. After the software expired, I could no longer apply skins automatically when windows starts. So, I revert back to a previous version. I like to purchase windowblinds but don’t have that money. Is there a reason to be scared? Nothing actually if you’re a firefox user. Hehe, just kidding. We constructed the circle in an oat field near Amity, Oregon, where it was completely invisible from the road but unmistakable from the sky. Major Worm Attack Imminent: Experts Warn of "The Big One"

a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1165/3388/1600/story.computer.virus.jpg”img style=”margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;” src=”http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1165/3388/320/story.computer.virus.jpg” alt=”" border=”0″ //aAs the spotlight on a dangerous Windows vulnerability grows brighter by the hour, security analysts Thursday said that it’s not hype driving the alarms, but genuine fear that a major worm attack is just days away. p “This is no drill,” said Mike Murray, director of research at vulnerability management vendor nCircle. “And no, this isn’t an overreaction. We’ve always said that some day there would be another big, serious vulnerability. /pp “Well, this is the one.” /pp The bug in question is one of a href=”http://www.techweb.com/wire/security/191801651″ 23 patched Tuesday by Microsoft/a, and one of 16 tagged by the Redmond, Wash. software developer as “critical.” It affects all currently-supported versions of Windows, can be exploited without end users lifting a finger, and in some experts’ eyes, rivals the bug that led to 2003’s destructive MSBlast attack. /pp Recent developments have turned up the heat over the vulnerability spelled out in a href=”http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-040.mspx” target=”_blank” Microsoft’s MS06-040 security bulletin/a. Wednesday, Department of Homeland Defense (DHS) called out a rare warning, and Microsoft acknowledged that the patch should be at the top of every computer user’s or administrator’s to-do list. /ppWednesday, the DHS, which also operates the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), took the unusual step of issuing its own warning. “Windows users are encouraged to avoid delay in applying this security patch,” said the DHS release. “This vulnerability could impact government systems, private industry, and critical infrastructure, as well as individual and home users.” /pp Earlier that day, Microsoft said “we are recommending that customers give priority to MS06-040.” /ppThursday’s deepening concern was fueled by several releases of new exploit code. HD Moore, co-creator of the Metasploit Framework, took his exploit for the MS06-040 vulnerability public early in the day. Later, after Symantec’s research team confirmed that Moore’s code, which targets Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, results in a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, repeated its previous warning to “patch as soon as possible.” /pp Other analysts agreed, and more.br //ppa href=”http://www.desktoppipeline.com/191901722?rssfeed_pl_dtp”Link/abr //pbr /Technorati Tags: a href=”http://technorati.com/tag/Worm” rel=”tag”Worm/a, a href=”http://technorati.com/tag/Attack” rel=”tag”Attack/a, a href=”http://technorati.com/tag/Vulnerability” rel=”tag”Vulnerability/a, a href=”http://technorati.com/tag/Weblog” rel=”tag”Weblog/a, a href=”http://technorati.com/tag/Windows” rel=”tag”Windows/a
