Migrated to a new server: Still on the same webhost!

JPMonje.net undergone a migration from the old hosting server to the new one. My blog was offline for 19 hours+ to be approximate yesterday as soon as I ordered a new hosting package from my hosting provider. They are quick in setting up my new account. BTW, I’m still with Philhosting! Yeah, you read it right.

PageRank Increase

Woot! I just discovered that my blog JPMonje.net breached the “zero” pagerank barrier and up to pagerank number 1 once again. What I’ve been doing for the past months to revive my blog are paying off. It is great for any blog to achieve an increasing pagerank because you can rank higher in google search for a particular keyword. However, by the recent failure on my part to take care of my blog, my pagerank went to zero. I missed my pagerank 2 on my old blog before : (. I guess the incoming links are picking up right now. I have to tweak my .htaccess (which my host doesn’t allow me to because it was hidden) to redirect those that link to my previous blog to my new address. I don’t know if the settings for domain redirect on the cPanel is the same as tweaking my .htacces file for the redirect. That way, all those blogs that link to my previous blog will be redirected to the new address. My blog will benefit from it and additional links to my blog will be added. As of this posting, I’m still in the process of migrating my blog to a new server to avoid downtimes.

My pagerank below: :D

Three Day Downtime

My blog is up again after a three day downtime as a result of a server slowdown my blog is hosted into. It happened on the weekend and any of my complaints regarding the problem were answered Monday. My site was accessible according to them and I confirmed it afterward. However, they didn’t explicitly mention why my site went down. I’m pissed of with the way they handle customer inquires and complaints. Despite that, I planned to move my account to their new server since the old one my blog is hosted into is nearly obsolete as what they said on their website. I already had done a full backup of my blog and all the files uploaded therein. All I’m looking forward to is their immediate reply to my upgrade request. I hope that there will be at least 99.9 percent uptime on their new server. Their failure will result for my transfer to another web host.

For my readers, my apologies.

Update: I recieved a reply from one of my support tickets on why my blog went down last Friday.

Fine-tuning

I guess I reached 60% of what I’ve been aiming for the past month to fully resuscitate my blog after being idle for the past months. Everything were back to scratch and started as if I have opened a new blog. It feels like I’m back on the day when I first learned all about blogging. And then I realized I started to learn from it again. I know I had incurred a lot of mistakes maintaining my blog before but that does not hinder me to try again and pursue what I’ve started 2 years ago (2 years and a half maybe, I can’t remember.)

Goodbye Eagleman

I finally decided to close my old blog “Ako si Eagleman” and delete all ftp files in my cPanel and the blog on my blogger account. I imported all of my posts from blogger to wordpress and plan to fix all of them one by one. Importing from blogger to wordpress is easy. However, keep in mind that you must perform a backup of your blog in case something goes wrong with your wordpress blog after the import.

Wordpress 2.7 Dashboard Problem

It was some sort of a bug when I first realized that my newly upgraded wordpress 2.7 (again) dashboard acted different from the previous experience i had last year. I can’t drag any widget in my dashboard. The drop down menus won’t work and the tool buttons on creating a post went missing. Putting pictures into my post went problematic.

My Web Hosting Sucks!

I’m deeply unsatisfied with the way my web hosting provider handles problems with their clients. I had encountered a handful of problems ranging from downtime to loss of data. A summary of the problems that I encountered after the jump.

December of last year I upgraded my wordpress version to the latest 2.7. Upgraded my plugins and fixed my newly installed Jello-Walla-Mello wordpress theme. Tweaking some CSS and fine tuning my blog for search engines and adsense. All went well until the upgrade of a new cPanel version. I was impressed by the new look of the new cPanel when I logged on to my account on new year’s eve. When I get back to Odiongan from the capital of Romblon, I noticed that I can’t access my blog, my cPanel and my wordpress admin page. After two days, I successfully accessed my wp-admin page and to my surprise my wordpress version was downgraded. I scanned my file manager to look for odd changes and saw that some files were missing and that the wordpress files’ version are dated back last May and June of 2008 instead of December 2008. It was like I performed a “System Restore” on my cPanel that all the changes I made on that day reverted back before I upgraded my wordpress. Even the theme Jello-Walla-Mello went missing from the themes folder. I had backups but It will took me time to do that and internet speed here is slow. I sent a support ticket and someone there replied to give them my accounts username and password. I recieved an update from them that they will attend to the situation and update me as soon as possible. Weeks later no reply. They even closed the ticket.

Now I performed all the uploads and upgrade of my wordpress once again.
