The Eczema Returns
My dad persuade me to go with him to a doctor regarding my anomaly growing on my knee. This anomaly is a skin infection of some sort. At first, I mistook it as a buni (ringworm) because I had it once before and it does look like one. Actually, the anomaly on my heel dates back last year, July to be exact.
Brief History
First, it was a small itchy wound then until it grows and expand 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It’s itchy and at the same time it’s uncomfortable. I applied some ointment just to relieve it’s itching but the problem still lies there. When I started my studies again and became busy, I took little attention to my age old problem. It became scaly and when I scratch it afterwards, it expels out small amount of liquid. Imagine that. After month’s of denying, the affected skin became dark and rough unto this day.
We went to this clinic alongside the market in Binan, Laguna. My dad says he is one of the best when it comes to skin anomalies..err… infections. The doctor diagnose me, took his flashlight and look inside my mouth, took my blood pressure and asks questions regarding my skin infection.
The diagnosis was that I have “eczema“.
Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent or recurring skin rashes characterized by redness, skin edema, itching and dryness, with possible crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration sometimes characterize healed lesions, though scarring is rare.
“…Dietary elements reported to trigger Eczema by sufferers include dairy products and coffee (both caffeinated and decaffeinated), soya, eggs, nuts and wheat.”
“…no cure is presently known for most types of dermatitis; even cortisone treatments and immunomodulation may often have only minor effects on what may be a complex problem. As the condition is often related to family history of allergies (and thus heredity), it is probable that gene therapy or genetic engineering might help.”
I know I have it. I had one 2 years ago on my left leg but then it went away after 6 months without medication.br /br /The doctor handed me a list of prescription drugs to be taken internally and other be applied directly on the skin for five days. Each with the amount of dosage and time intervals. After five days of treatment, it is recommended to visit the doctor again to see if there’s some improvements. We then headed to Mercury Drugstore to buy the medicines.
Another thing. The doctor instructed me to strictly follow my new diet scheme to be taken so the medicines will work. These are the foods I must abstain for awhile.
*pork
*eggs
*instant noodles
*sardines
*chicken (aw, c’mon!)
*wheat products
*peanuts
*other oily foods
Damn! I wonder what will I eat the next 5 days? I don’t wanna live this way. Waah!

I’ve used Salcura Intensive and Zeoderm on my little girl who occassionally gets eczema. I didn’t want to use petroleum based products. Her skin looked better within a couple of days and I hope she grows out of it.
